This checklist describes the procedure for aligning multi-object
slitmasks on DEIMOS using the Slitmask
Alignment Tool (SAT), in the Imaging Coarse Align mode. This SAT
mode will be typically used only in the case the Fine Alignment
procedure does not converge.
Navigate to an “analysis” VNC desktop (blue
background)
From the window manager pull-down menu select
DEIMOS Utilities -> Slitmask Alignment Tool
Click Load Star List, locate the appropriate
directory, and select the appropriate starlist file.
Focus telescope.
In the MAGIQ UI, middle click on your next target.
Ask to OA to run Mira in the neighborhood
of your target. If you'll be on the field for several
hours, then have the OA focus 1-2 hours west of the field.
Wait about 10 minutes for the OA to acquire an
appropriate star and run Mira.
Configure DEIMOS.
Insert desired slitmask. You can do this while the
telescope slews.
Send grating to zeroth-order position by clicking the
GO ZERO button on the DEIMOS Dashboard GUI's
grating subpanel.
Select mask. Click on the drop-down menu next
to Mask: (bottom-left side of the SAT window).
Acquire. Click on the Acquire button. This will
Take an image of the field with the selected mask.
Take an image of the field without the selected mask.
Show both images in the display region.
Select fiducial star. Click on any star in the
displayed field, wich you can identify as one of the
fiducial stars. The system will automatically move the
telescope to match the star position to the nearest box.
Check the matching If the selected star is correctly
moved to the nearest box, go back to
the Fine
Alignment procedure, otherwise go back to step 3.
